The Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard (FMJH) and the Laboratoire de Mathématiques d’Orsay (LMO) announced on February 23, 2021 that Azat Miftakhov is a Laureate of their incoming international mobility program called “junior scientific visibility” which aims to fund a period of research studies of a young talented international PhD students under the direction of a mathematician belonging to a FMJH-affiliated laboratory.
We are pleased to publish Azat Mifatakhov’s response letter that passed the censorship of the prison system and arrived on May 13, 2021:
Dear Pascal Massart and Frederic Rousset,
It gave me great joy to receive your invitation to study within the framework offered by your foundation and your laboratory. Unfortunately, I am currently imprisoned for my political beliefs. When I would be released is hard to tell. Most likely, this would not happen in 2021, and, consequently, I would not be able to attend the course you were so very kind to propose, as I deeply regret, since your offer is of great interest to me. Your letter is very important for me. It is a pleasure to feel the support of your foundation and your laboratory and thus realize that I have not been forgotten. I was profoundly moved by your concern. I do hope to be able to communicate with you in a different setting soon. There still remains a chance it could happen this year, and then I would be able to take full advantage of your offer. In any event, I do not lose hope.
With profound respect,
Azat Miftakhov.
Azat Miftakhov was named an honorary student of Paris-Saclay University on March 4, 2021.
