A St Petersburg State University student expelled from the university in apparent retaliation after a protest action in support of Azat Miftakhov

Elena Skvortsova, a journalism student at the Saint Petersburg State University, and an opposition and a human rights activist, has been expelled from the university in an apparent retaliation for her political activities. Officially Elena was expelled for failing to complete her required practical training. However, Novaya Gazeta reports that the university administration has made it impossible for Skvortsova to complete her practical training and erected a series of artificial obstacles, eventually leaving her just a single day to complete the training. These obstructionists tactics started after Skvortsova was arrested in January 2021 at a protest action in support of Azat Miftakhov. Together with another student, Ekaterina Bushkova, she went to a local St Petersburg office of the “United Russia” party and brought several window frames with photos of Miftakhov attached to them. Both students were arrested at the protest.
